Two New Tampers Bolster Colas Rail UK Fleet

We are delighted to share that Colas Rail UK has welcomed two new Plasser & Theurer (P&T) 08-4×4/4S Tampers to our fleet.

The addition of DR73953 and DR73954 demonstrates Colas Rail UK’s continued commitment into the industry by investing in the latest tamping technology. The recent additions to the fleet consolidate our position as the key supplier for NWR, maintaining our market share of over 40%, with the largest On Track Machine (OTM) fleet in the UK with 29 machines in total.

DR73953 and DR73954 began fabrication in 2025 in Linz, Austria and entered the United Kingdom at the start of 2026. Rigorous testing and meticulous operator training took place at Severn Valley and Chinnor Heritage Railway’s on the lead up to their operational introduction in April. Both machines are now delivering critical maintenance and renewal work in Network Rail’s Anglia Region.

DR73953 and DR73954 will join the rest of OTM fleet deployed across the UK, continuously delivering tamping work to ensure the safe passage of trains across the network.
