On the 4th of July 2016, the Midland Metro Alliance (MMA) was formed with the goal of rejuvenating and expanding the West Midlands Metro network for client, West Midlands Combined Authority.
With Colas Rail UK fulfilling our role as Principal Contractor alongside the client and design consortium, the MMA is now celebrating its 10th anniversary.
To commemorate this milestone, we are delighted to share ‘Realising poTential’, a brochure dedicated to the technical and economic impact brought by the MMA as part of the UK’s largest light rail scheme.

Reflecting on the success of the last decade, Colas Rail UK Urban and Industries Managing Director, Iain Anderson said “Looking back on the last 10 years, the MMA has demonstrated the power of collaboration as we turn ambitious transport concepts into reality.
“I’m delighted that we have played a part to shape a more connected, prosperous, and ultimately sustainable West Midlands.”
The MMA will continue to deliver further light rail schemes following the contract awards in late 2025 for the second phases of the Birmingham Eastside and Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Extensions which are due to be completed in 2028.
