We’re delighted to share that Colas Rail UK has been awarded the Silver Award as part of the Armed Forces Covenant’s Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS).
After receiving the Bronze Award in 2023, Colas Rail UK have put processes into practices that were deserving of the Silver Award a year later.
To achieve the Silver Award we had to:
- Signed the Armed Forces Covenant
- Accredited as a holder of ERS Bronze Award and develop suitable plans, policies and evidence to support the ERS Silver application, proactively demonstrating that the armed forces community are not unfairly disadvantaged during the hiring process
- Actively ensure that our workforce is aware of their positive policies towards defence people issues
- within the context of Reserves the employer must have demonstrated support to mobilisations or have a framework in place. They must demonstrate support to training by providing at least 5 days’ additional unpaid/paid leave
- the employer should demonstrate support to the Cadet movement by providing proactive support to individual cadets and/or to local cadet units
Prior to joining the Armed Forces Covenant, Colas Rail UK partnered with The Forces Transition Group (FTG) to collaborate at armed forces transition recruitment careers events.
These events have been well received, with Colas Rail UK hiring multiple military veterans for various roles.
Speaking on the success of the award, Colas Rail UK CEO, Jean-Pierre Bertrand said “to be recognised with the ERS Silver award is a tremendous achievement by Chris Pugh and his team.
“Caring is at the core of our company culture and providing opportunities for those who served their country, we will continue to care for our new colleagues as we nurture their new careers in the rail industry.”
Jean-Pierre’s thoughts were echoed by QHSE Trainer and military veteran, Chris Pugh “This prestigious accolade highlights our unwavering dedication to supporting our Armed Forces Community.
“Colas Rail UK has put in significant effort to achieve this award, through our commitment we have been able to employ and support numerous staff members, positively impacting the lives of service personnel and alleviating the stress associated with transitioning to civilian life.
“This award and our ongoing commitment exemplify the values our Care, Share and Dare, we strive to do our utmost in supporting our exceptional Armed Forces, and will continue to do so.”
