We’re delighted to announce that Colas Rail UK has pledged to support The Railway Mental Health Charter (RMHC), the first ever framework set up to help the rail industry support workforce mental wellbeing.

The RHMC was developed in collaboration with Southeastern Railway, RSSB and the Mental Wellbeing Group and aims to:

  • Encourage all member workplaces to engage with and embrace the mental health agenda.
  • Support rail companies in preventing and addressing mental ill health, including the effective management of stress in the workplace.
  • Make good practice and information readily and freely available to member organisations.
  • Support the industry in taking a proactive approach to end mental health stigma, get conversations underway and create an open and inclusive culture where all colleagues know where and when to ask for support.

The charter will be reviewed annually, to encompass feedback from the industry and keep up to date with good practice in the field. Signing organisations will be supported by the industry to improve mental wellbeing in their companies.

Colas Rail UK will also have an ongoing action plan which will be reviewed on a monthly basis, through Jude Tymon, our Head of Wellbeing & Safety Behaviours and a representative group which has been subsequently set up.

Speaking about Colas Rail UK’s commitment to the RMHC, Colas Rail Group QHSE Director, Paul Taylor said “We are delighted to commit to the RMHC and further champion our commitments to promote positive mental health and encourage open discussions about positive mental health.

“After the period of uncertainty, we’ve all faced during the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s more important than ever to take care of our wellbeing and the wellbeing of our colleagues and families.

“The RHMC is a great first step towards making these industrywide changes for the better and ensuring that we at Colas Rail UK, share and implement the latest good practices.”
